Have you ever heard the song "Don't Blink" by Kenny Chesney? If you haven't please youtube the video and watch it. That's what I love about country music... it has a story... a message... and in most cases is real, true, and something you can relate to. In this song, Kenny Chesney is saying how he's watching the news one night and a there is a man being interviewed. The man was 102 years old. So they ask what's the secret to life... and he says...
Don't blink
Just like that you're six years old and you take a nap and you
Wake up and you're twenty-five and your high school sweetheart becomes your wife
Don't blink
You just might miss your babies growing like mine did
Turning into moms and dads next thing you know your "better half"
Of fifty years is there in bed
And you're praying God takes you instead
Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster than you think
So don't blink
More and more now this is how I feel. I know I am ONLY 24. I understand that. People tell me don't worry you're still young... you have a lot of life ahead of you. But it's not guaranteed. And it makes me more anxious to experience things that I haven't yet... and definitely enjoy all the little things and the little moments in life. Not that I don't already. I definitely feel I do. Everyday is a new memory for me. But seeing my life just flying by lately and seeing how BIG my kids are getting just wants me to stop and freeze time so I can fully take in some of these moments.
So, for my birthday. At midnight I was awakened by my husband's lovely version of happy birthday in Spanglish. I loved it so much I even asked for an encore. Then at 7:30 am I was awakened once again with a serenade of happy birthday, sand by my Mommy and son Diego. Luckily Mom took Diego to school so I got an extra half hour of sleep.
Then motherhood called and Alayna wanted breakfast. So I made her favorite... eggs sunny side up. As I was preparing... I noticed the time on the clock. I ran to get my camera. How cool is that?
After breakfast Alayna, Arielle and I decided to nap a little before we had to pick up Diego from school (he had early release) and I love naps! But of course I couldn't nap on my birthday. I was bombarded with texts, emails, and phone calls with birthday wishes. I was very thankful. My favorite had to be my brother's call though... it went a little something like this:
Me: Hello
Bro: Hey sister what are you doing?
Me: I am trying to take a nap but haven't been able to... and you brother?
Bro: Oh yeah.... (Pause) Well I called you for a reason but I don't remember why...
Me: Really... too bad... well if you remember call me back cuz I am trying to sleep here and you're totally harshing my mellow (no pun intended LOL)
Bro: No wait I remember!... (Pause)... So my mom and dad's anniversary is in two days right? (It is)
Me: Yeah and don't forget to call them and wish them a happy anniversary... I know you forget things like that... but I am going to sleep now goodnight...
Bro: Happy Birthday Little Sister...
Me: Thanks Brother you're the best
Bro: Well I love you
Me: I love you more
And that was that. And yes we really do call each other Brother and Sister. But I love how great of a relationship we have. He really is the best and that's not an exaggeration.
So I slept for like 45 minutes before getting up and finishing out my day.
Junior wanted me to meet him so we could go have dinner somewhere or celebrate my birthday somehow.
So I posed for some quick pics with my Alayna while photographer Diego snapped away.
Don't I just have the cutest kids? Oh man they make my whole day! Actually they make my whole Life!
While waiting for Jr, Alayna and I decided an in car photo session was required. And we're very good at those. I love when Alayna tells me... "Mommy, that face was very pretty" or "Mommy, don't I look like such a Princess?" Oh man that girl...
Then little Miss Arielle made her appearance and modeled her new Ballerina onesie for all to see. And she was quite a sight!
So we decided... to eat Sonics. Well first choice was my favorite restaurant the Olive Garden... but I can't justify spending $15 each for Jr and I... and then still have to buy the kids food and tips and all that jazz. So I am cheap. LOL
Obviously the kids had NO problem with that... plus we even got ice cream afterward! Even better!
Then we ended the night by going to a friend of ours house and playing xbox. Okay so Jr played xbox. But Louie, our friend, has a game where you can take your picture with this little webcam thingy and it imports your face into the game as a player. I thought it was so cool.
So he did one for Jr so I could see it done. Jr is known to cross his eyes for every picture he takes. And this was NO exception. Oh man... it was hilarious to see his little man with crossed eyes! We laughed so hard! It was a great night.
Doesn't it look JUST like him? Amazing!
So then we continued the festivites today. I met Jr at work for lunch with the kids again... after Diego got off from school. We feasted on chinese and McDonalds... and I spent time with my favorite people.
And I ended the day by going to visit our Goddaughter. She cries everytime she sees her Nino. Haha. Priceless memories.
And he just adores her... LOL

Sounds like a wonderful Day! You're right; take it from a 56 year old lady; WHO well remembers my 25th when I realized I was a quarter of a century old! Now my youngest is 23! Still, your best years are most likely ahead of you; mine were. Take care. Your family is beautiful
Wow, that was a day full of activities and fun. How funny I just liealized that you are a year away from 25 and me from the big 50. As usual you stretch your bithdays to like a birthweek and it was fun to take you to Peter Piper of all places today Friday on our anniversary day (your mom's and mine) of all days. How do you do it to squeeze your celebrations into ours? Anyway, I am glad you had a terrific b-day and I hope you liked the little purse your mom bought for you.
Who feeds their kids BREAKFAST at 10:22am?
Betty - Thank you.
Daddy - Hey we're 25 years apart... crazy... I didn't realize that either. I wouldn't be ME if my birthday celebrations didn't last a week. Thank you and Mom for taking me to lunch since you abandoned me on the day of my birth for a trip to Palm Springs! Oh and I loooooved the little vitage purse my Mom bought me... she's awesome and totally knows me. Love you both!
Anonymous - Well Alayna has 2 breakfasts everyday... one first thing in the morning with Diego before school... and one with me. I don't eat breakfast until like about 10-10:30 though. She has 2 breakfasts to hold her over until lunch at 3pm when Diego gets home.
So lazy
Hey Michelle,
Happy belated birthday! This year, I was away in North Carolina while April celebrated her 19th birthday. I had never missed any of my girls birthdays and I was bummbed about that. I'm sure your papis felt the same way.
Now, other than breakfast at 10:22 a.m. what does this time mean? Is this the time you were born???
If it is, then it is so cool that you were able to capture it on a photo.
As to having breakfast at that time, that is early for me. I normally have breakfast at noon on weekends=D LOL
Tia -Thanks! My parents brought me back a cute little vintage purse as a gift though... and we went out for lunch when they cameback. So it was good.
10:22 is my birthday October 22nd. I am not sure the time I was born... I'll have to look.
And you know us Melos Breakfast is always at Noon. But now I have to do it at about 10:30 because Alayna wakes up super early with Diego to eat breakfast and by that time she's hungry again. Then we have a late lunch at 3:00 when Diego gets out of school. And Dinner is late... at like 7:30 when everyone is home from work. Because I HATE having to cook a million times a day around everyones schedules. So this works best for us. My mom isn't home from work until 7:30 or so... so that's why.
